5th & 6th June 2025

The Brief:

How can we engage the public on climate issues with positive feelings and experiences rather than provoking anxiety?

A collaboration between the Royal College of Art and the Horniman Museum, wherein designers were asked to devise an interactive installation or experience that educates audiences on Coral Health. The Horniman Museum has world class research on Corals under their ongoing research project titled: Project Coral.

After an application process me and my collegue Nina Strzeszewska were selected for our concept: Spectrum of the Reef

Concept:

A Data-Visualisation Weaving Workshop - After conducting the research, we have decided on multiple data points, such as the process of coral bleaching, from healthy to dead, bleaching affects by region, ocean temperature, bleaching consequences, or ways of reversing coral bleaching.

Workshop flow-

Audience is intrigued by the workshop space

An ice-breaker board, which is essentially a data-string activity enquires their knowledge of coral bleaching

This leads to an ideal weaving template

they are directed to the workshop table layed out with weaving material & tools

We show them how to weave & follow the template

they may choose to finish a weaving piece or continue onto a previous one

Once a piece is ready we help them attach it onto the comunity installation
